Antrum was established in December 2001 as a commercial vehicle to exploit the technical expertise and intellectual property of the Wireless Communications Laboratory (WiCR) of Loughborough University.

The laboratory has a worldwide reputation for being at the forefront of patch antenna design, antenna testing and free space material assessment testing.
